WSU instructor arrested in Lewiston, Idaho

From staff reports

Lewiston Police Department’s apprehension of alleged felon Dustin Pearson, 29, came with the arrest of his mother, Nori Pearson, an instructor at Washington State University.

Pearson, of Lewiston, was sought for eight warrants for arrest, prompting the dispatch of Lewiston SWAT to conduct a late evening raid on his home on Nov. 20.

Police acquired a warrant to enter the home of Nori L. Pearson, 61, with the intent to apprehend Dustin.

She was initially detained and later arrested on charges of harboring a known and wanted felon, along with Dustin’s girlfriend, Jessica N. Martin, 31, who was also in the home.

Police received an anonymous tip that Dustin had returned to his mother’s residence, according to Lieutenant Roger Lanier of the Lewiston Police Department.

When police asked if Dustin was in the residence, Nori responded with “I’m not saying a word,” according to a Lewiston PD report.

Among the eight warrants were two felony charges and six misdemeanor charges across two counties. Included were possession of a controlled substance out of Nez Peirce County, Idaho, and first-degree trafficking in stolen property and third-degree theft out of Asotin County, Washington.

“We had been looking for him when we received information that he was staying at his mother’s,” Lanier said. “We had visited her home before and warned her that he had warrants, and warned her that she would be arrested as well if he was found in her home.”

Lewiston police began the raid at 10:20 p.m. Once inside Nori’s home, an entrance to the home’s attic was found to be barricaded on the other side.

SWAT officers attempted to bypass the barricade with caution as Dustin had a history of drug abuse, was known to be paranoid, and had previously eluded law enforcement, according to Lanier.

It is not believed that Nori Pearson held a prior criminal background. Nori works as an accounting instructor in the Carson College of Business at WSU.
