One WSU student dead in collision on State Route 26

WSU student Morgan Cope, 20, died in a traffic collision Sunday afternoon on State Route 26, 16 miles west of Colfax, according to a press release from the Washington State Patrol.

A man driving a pickup truck heading east on State Route 26 crossed the center line and hit Cope’s sedan.

It is unknown at this time why the truck’s driver crossed the center line. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the collision, according to the press release.

The driver of the truck was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for injuries sustained at the scene.
