Computer security courses resume Wednesday

From staff reports

Washington State University will be hosting a “Computer and Network Security Awareness” course this Wednesday from 9 – 11 a.m., one of the many training courses offered throughout the year.

Matt Skinner, vice president of Information and Technology, says that the course is meant to teach people how to be safer online.

“It describes the best security practices and most common mistakes at Washington State University,” Skinner said.

This course is among the many pre-scheduled and diverse courses throughout the year, Skinner said.

“The courses have been going on for many years and are part of a large and diverse number of courses, workshops, and updates facilitated as part of the employee training and development program in Human Resource Services,” Skinner said.

Skinner said these training courses are targeted toward faculty members and employees in order to make them more aware of scams and hoaxes online.

“Appropriate WSU polices are discussed, as well as real-life examples,” said Skinner.
