Proposed Bylaw Changes

Office of Student Media at Washington State University

On Sept. 30, 2020, the Board of Student Media unanimously approved these bylaw changes, pending publication as required by the board bylaws. Please direct any comments or concerns to Richard Miller, [email protected].

1) Revise Faculty-at-large category to At-large, allowing us to add staff and/or community members

2) Revise ASWSU representation from four to three, remove class requirement, as suggested last spring by an ASWSU representative

3) Streamline requirements to change bylaws.

Current language:

“Proposed changes to the Statement of Policies and/or Operating Bylaws must be published in The Daily Evergreen at least three weeks prior to a vote by the Board of Student Media. A proposed change requires a two-thirds affirmative vote of a two-thirds quorum of the voting membership of the Board of Student Media. The university president or a designee outside the Board of Student Media shall have final approval of changes to the Statement of Policies brought forward by the Board of Student Media.”

New language:

“Proposed changes to the Statement of Policies and/or Operating Bylaws requires a two-thirds affirmative vote of a two-thirds quorum of the voting membership of the Board of Student Media.”
