Continuing the departure of every part of the 2023 WSU volleyball team that reached the Sweet 16, former WSU assistant head coach Shannon Hunt has signed a contract with Nevada volleyball to become the new head coach of the program.

“Congrats to the very best,” Jen Greeny posted on X.

A former WSU volleyball player herself, Hunt has been a vital part of the Greeny’s staff over the full tenure of the former Cougs coach after playing alongside Jen during her own career.

“Consistent as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west,” Burdette Greeny posted on X.

Becoming the 12th head coach for Nevada, Hunt has been a part of eight consecutive NCAA Tournament teams and a 26-8 season with WSU in 2023.

“Shannon Hunt brings a championship resume at every level of her coaching and playing career. From the start of this national search, we knew she was the right fit to lead Nevada Volleyball,” said Stephanie Rempe, University of Nevada director of athletics.

With her first head coaching job of her collegiate coaching career, Hunt brings a lot of experience as an assistant and was a head coach for Prairie High School from 2000–03 and making one State Championship appearance. From 2004–2010 and prior to joining Greeny’s staff, Hunt coached Hockinson High School in Brush Prairie, Washington, leading the team to two State Championship appearances.

I love the atmosphere, the work ethic, and the overall sense of direction, and I can’t wait to jump in and work with everyone. I also want to thank Jen and Burdette Greeny for their support, encouragement, and mentorship. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Hunt said.
