WSU students and Washington residents are invited to take advantage of numerous events and resources provided to them by the state and university ahead of the the 2024 presidential election, which will be on Nov. 5.
In addition to smaller events, the Center for Civic Engagement will be hosting a Public Square on free speech on Oct. 10, where professors and community members will be brought together to discuss the current political climate over free speech and how it affects us all in our daily lives, CCE peer mentor Ashe Walker said.
On Nov. 4 and 5, the CCE, ASWSU and the CUB will be collaborating on a voting hall where any community member can submit their ballot or vote on the spot, Walker said.
“We are also running other smaller events and will be advertising registering to vote around town,” Walker said. “All of which can be found on our website or on Give Pulse.”
Washington residents looking to vote for the first time in the state are encouraged to check voter eligibility and dates and deadlines, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s website. Residents registering to vote online or by mail must do so by Oct. 28.
To register online, residents need a Washington State Driver’s License or ID, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s website. To register by print, residents may print out a form in their language and mail in the completed form. To register by mail, residents may request forms be mailed to them and return their forms by mail once completed.
Voter registration drives may request up to 250 forms by mail, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s website.
After Oct. 28, residents must contact their county elections department for times and locations to register in person. The deadline to register in person is Nov. 5, according to the Washington Secretary of State’s website.
Residents from other states who are living in Washington may change their state residency in accordance with state policy or request an absentee ballot from their state’s appropriate office or department.
