10 puppies named after soup were put up for adoption at the Whitman County Humane Society.
Five of the 10 puppies have already found new homes. The puppies still available are named Ashe Doogh, Chowder, French Onion, Gumbo and Hot and Sour.
The puppies and all other adoptable animals can be found at the Whitman County Humane Society. Appointments can be made to meet the dogs and applications can be filled out to adopt and foster all animals at the shelter.
“Students can make great foster homes,” said Lori Jordan, Whitman County Humane Society vice president.
The shelter has adoption fees for each type of animal. Puppies are $290, adult dogs are $175 and senior dogs are $90. Kittens are $160, adult cats are $90 and senior cats are $140. The fees cover animals’ first year of vaccinations, a microchip and getting spayed or neutered.
The puppies are around two months old. They were a surprise birth that occurred when a dog became pregnant after their owner thought they had been spayed.
“There was an error in not altering their dog,” Jordan said. “But they took the right steps to make sure the puppies came to us so we could find the most appropriate home.”
Jordan said the best way to support the Humane Society is by adopting animals. The Humane Society also relies on fosters, donations and volunteers.
The Humane Society is located at 1340 Old Moscow Road.
