Seniors support fire dept. with Sept. 11 dinner

From staff reports

In order to make sure 9/11 is not forgotten, the Whitman Senior Living Community will host a spaghetti dinner Thursday to fundraise for the Pullman Fire Department

The senior center’s Spaghetti Feed and Benefit will commemorate those lost on Sept. 11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

“The fire department does a lot for us,” said Lovetta Lohr, 78, who has lived at Whitman Senior Living for more than a year. “It seems like someone is always needed from the fire department here, and I hope a lot of people come.”

The event will recognize Pullman firefighters in honor of those who responded first after the 9/11 attacks.

“Everyone should be remembering 9/11,” Lohr said. “A lot of people lost their lives that day, and this is just one way to not forget.”

Susan Faltermeyer, the director of community relations and marketing at Whitman Senior Living, said that while the idea was hers, the community embraced it.

“We depend on the Pullman Fire Department very often here at Whitman and wanted to show how much we appreciate them,” Faltermeyer said.

The dinner will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Kids will eat for free, and adults are asked to bring a $5 suggested donation. All proceeds will go the fire department.

Whitman Senior Living is located at 1285 S.W. Center St. in Pullman.
