Letter to the editor | Students deserve support in activism

Willie Dickerson, Snohomish

Thanks for your editorial supporting high school students’ right to speak up, especially when it involves their safety (“Support students’ decision to speak up” by the Editorial Board, The Daily Evergreen, March 22, 2018). Many seniors can vote because they are often 18, but all students can call, write or visit those who represent them in Congress. I have seen elementary students speak out in meetings with their senators and representatives about issues that matter, and it has made a difference. This is part of the reason nearly a quarter of the members of Congress have co-sponsored the Reach Every Mother and Child Act, aimed at ending millions of preventable deaths in our world. So take five minutes to call those who represent you in Congress: 202-224-3121. Your voice matters!
