An interview committee has recommended Stephanie Bray for the open position of principal at Franklin Elementary School.

Bray has worked as a first-grade teacher at Sunnyside Elementary School for the last four years and interned under former principal Bill Holman, who is leaving Franklin Elementary after six years.

“A formal interview and presentation to the interview committee, a written exercise, an observation and written feedback of a lesson, a tour of Franklin and an interview with Franklin students and a staff and community open forum” were all parts of the selective interview process, according to a Pullman Public Schools news release.

At the forum, candidates stood at tables in the schools multipurpose room as community members and parents gathered to ask candidates questions.

Those who attended were encouraged to write down feedback about each candidate on forms provided.

One employee wrote that Bray had a “very positive connection with students, communicates well and knows and understands Franklin and Pullman School District,” according to the press release.

A parent also described Bray as an “excellent communicator and is very knowledgeable about elementary level students and what they need to succeed,” according to the press release.

The decision to appoint Bray as Principle of Franklin Elementary will be decided by the Pullman School District Board of Directors at its meeting on June 27.

“Stephanie Bray has extensive elementary experience and is a talented educator and leader,“ Pullman Schools Superintendent Bob Maxwell said in the news release. “We are thrilled that Stephanie is excited to serve Franklin as their interim principal.”
