Moscow Brewing Company, a family-run business, kicked off the season with a grand reopening celebration June 17.

“We started the process in March or April of last year, finally wrapped things up in January and did a soft opening in the end of March,” lead brewer Andy Severson said.

As of now, the brewing company represents a “reincarnation of the business,” Leah Hart said, who makes up one-third of the ownership group along with brother Severson and her husband, Aaron Hart. The trio is no stranger to brewing beer as they have several years of experience.

“Over nine years of home brewing experience set us up for success with recipe creation and the execution of those recipes,” Leah Hart said. “The flavors we can create in the brewing process are pretty amazing.”

Moscow Brewing Company’s values are reflective of the beer-loving, friendly small town that represents its namesake, Hart said.

“This is a great place for people who love Moscow to come hang out, talk and have great beer,” Severson said. “We are the small brewery, not as flashy. We let our beer speak for itself.”

The company is also proud of its long history as well as the litany of beer-makers it has inspired, Severson said.

“Moscow Brewing Company tracks its history to the original brewery in town, Moscow Brewery, which was open in the 1890s,” Severson said. “Breweries were integral parts of the community; every town had a brewery.”

Although they take pride in their storied past, Moscow Brewing Company is constantly thinking of progressive ways to shake up the beer industry, Severson said.

“We have the first ‘Crowler Canner’ in the area,” Severson said. “Crowlers are filled like a Growler but are more portable, recyclable, and the beer stays fresh much longer.”

The owners of Moscow Brewing Company said they are optimistic about the small business’ future since it opened the doors this spring.

“We have always had this dream to share our craft and passion with the community,” Hart said.

Severson had a similarly bright outlook on what the future may hold for the young brewery, he said.

“We are still on a small system,” Severson said, “but hopefully there will be more production down the road.”

A unique touch that brings a home-like vibe to the business are handmade tables constructed by Andy and Leah’s father, using wood from the family barn, Severson said.

Live music on the patio and Southern fried comfort food from Duke’s Food Truck were an integral part of Saturday’s grand reopening as well as the brewery’s summer schedule.

“Our live music will run the gamut, same as anywhere in Moscow,” Severson said. “We plan on having a ton of live music here this summer.”

Just outside downtown, Moscow Brewing Company is hoping to spark homegrown interest by using this great location to their advantage, local customer Oliver Cochrane said.

“Everyone knows the Moscow Mall but this new strip seems like it will be a popular place with the expansion,” Cochrane said.

Whether it’s live music, creole and Cajun food from Duke’s or just some great brews on tap, Moscow Brewing Company is the place for music and beer-lovers to relax and socialize this summer.
