Monir Desouky and his family have worked in the food industry to bring Greek culture to the northwest for over 40 years.

Yia Yia Nikki’s has long been a local favorite in La Grande, Oregon, and the family is looking forward to expanding their horizons into the Palouse, Desouky said.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the grand opening of the restaurant will be different compared to previous celebrations, Desouky said.

The restaurant would like to offer dine-in service, but they will only offer pick-up or delivery services, he said. Walk-in orders will also be available during the restaurant’s operating hours.

The family plans to open outdoor seating where guests can safely enjoy their experience at Yia Yia Nikki’s, Desouky said.

Despite the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic, the family anticipates continued prosperity across all locations, Desouky said.

Desouky looks forward to enriching the Pullman community while providing a chance to learn about new cultures, he said.

“Many people don’t know a lot about Greek or Ukrainian culture and being able to let [customers] experience these cultures through food will ease the tension,” Desouky said.

Desouky is proud of the work his family has done and is excited for his sons to follow in his footsteps, he said.

“We want to remain successful while we continue to bring diversity and teach about multicultural backgrounds in the wonderful Palouse,” Desouky said.

Desouky hopes to positively impact the Pullman community and bring people together with the power of food and knowledge.
