I give the Cubano three thumbs up but the soup was the star

Colfax may have limited eateries but Serfes Food comes out swinging for the fences. I have had this spot recommended to me more times than I could count so buckle in (un)faithful readers it is time to finally make my way to this well-talked about restaurant.

Located directly on the main street of Colfax, you might actually miss this restaurant as you are driving through, but I usually use the big burger sign of Top Notch as my guidepost. Serfes is open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and just recently introduced their dinner options.

Walking into the restaurant I was instantly struck by how pleasant and calming the aesthetic was and the nice trickle of a water foundation. The soft thrum of people enjoying their good food encouraged me that this was going to be a great dining experience. The service was top notch and I felt guided through the menu which while not extensive has some good servings.

I have not had the opportunity to have their dinner yet but their lunch offerings can be separated into four main categories.

Soup, Salad, Sandwiches and Crepes.

There are some combo deals where you could get half a sandwich and a soup or salad but I blatantly ignored those deals and went with a full sando and soup. The Cubano was calling my name and the soup of the day was a taco soup that sounded particularly scrumptious.

And oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, it was scrumptious indeed. While it did take a little longer than I was expecting to get the food out, I attribute that to putting love and flavor into the meal because my oh my, it was worth the wait.

Starting with the Cubano, I had high expectations both from the recommendations that I had gotten and it being one of my favorite types of sandwiches. Serfes did not disappoint as they brought a combo of mouth-watering flavor and a good portion that while filling me up made me want to get another sandwich. You can taste every element of the sandwich which only adds to the experience.

But to my surprise and joy, the taco soup was the star of the show. I was expecting a nice side piece to the sandwich but a mixture of strong and tasty flavors had the soup steal the spotlight, my only wish was that I got a bigger serving. It also helped that I had been freezing and the warmth of the soup warmed me to the bone.

For a drink, I decided to go with the classic Fanta, nothing special but an old reliable for a soup and sandwich that I could not pass up. I was pleasantly surprised by the offer of complimentary water, coffee and tea that if I had been in a different mood would have gone great with the meal.

Perhaps the best thought that I had from this meal was a deep need to try the other sandwiches and soups, not content with a one-and-done visit. I fear those might need to wait for another day but I have my eye on the Pork Bahn-Mi and the Reuben. Not to mention the promise of crepes on the horizon.

Unfortunately as of now, I cannot speak much to the dinners, a recent addition to the restaurant that I have not had the opportunity to try out. But the popularity of the restaurant has led to this expansion and after eating their lunches I can see why the locals are loving it. Rest assured dear readers I will make this noble sacrifice and chow down on some good food and report back.

Price wise you are getting a great deal. Altogether my meal was less than fifteen dollars and I had enough to fill me up but keep wanting more. Matched with the delicious taste and great atmosphere, you have a dining experience that makes it worth it to take the trip to go to Colfax.

I was a little hesitant to head down to Serfes Food after all the recommendations that I received. Colfax tends to be a little out of the way for most students but you should not skip this restaurant, it met the hype and I will be visiting again soon.
