The American Volleyball Coaches Association named three Cougs to the 2023 Pacific North All-Region team.
Magda Jehlárová earned the honor for the fifth time of her career, making the First Team again in 2023. Pia Timmer earned the honor for the fourth time, also being named to the First Team. Finally, Argentina Ung made her first career all-region team, earning an honorable mention.
Jehlárová has dominated the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. To book her team a trip to the Sweet 16, she hit .750% while tallying 15 kills and a single-match tournament career-best 10 blocks. She has set several records this season, becoming the all-time leader in career blocks in the WSU program, NCAA rally-scoring era and Pac-12 history.
Now up to 766, she is having one of her best seasons ever.
Timmer tied the top spot in career aces in WSU program history at 150 with her ace against Dayton, needing one more to solidify her spot as the best at the line. She had 15 kills in the first-round victory over Grand Canyon and then tallied 12 kills in the second-round victory over Dayton.
Against the Flyers, she had a double-double, adding 11 digs to her 12 kills and hitting .235% in the process.
Ung has the WSU offense thriving at an unforeseen level. She ranks 27th nationally in assists per set at 10.51 and has the team hitting .289%, on pace for the best rate in program history. Against Dayton, Ung finished with a dominant all-around performance. She had 42 assists in four sets, eight digs, seven blocks, a service ace and five kills.
While Jehlárová and Timmer are playing in their final runs for WSU volleyball, Ung has one year left of eligibility. But the 2023 season is yet to be over for the trio, continuing at 11:30 a.m. Thursday as they take on Pittsburgh in the Sweet 16.
