Crimson and Chardonnay taste test Pullman

Ten years of mother-student bonding over taste-bud titillating wine samplings will continue tomorrow evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Crimson and Chardonnay event tradition has been hosted by the Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA) in accordance with the Alumni Association to provide decadent foods, wines, and university musical entertainment to resident and visiting Cougs.

“We have brought in other music groups to perform,” said Carrie Neppel, Student Alumni Ambassador adviser, “but we like the idea of featuring WSU students as the performers.”

Despite this, the focus of the event is the wine. Wineries send representatives to offer samples and educate attendees of differences between each wine.

Local wineries in attendance include Basalt Cellars, The Cider House, Cooper Wine Company, Kitzke Cellars, and Merry Cellars.

Alumna Lynn DeVleming, who is connected with Basalt Cellars, said students will be manning their station and gaining experience within the industry.

These students will offer wines of a wide variety, including strong and seasoned blends. Basalt Cellars has learned to always include sweeter and fruity wine in its arsenal for students and young attendees, DeVleming said.

“Almost like a wine with training wheels,” DeVleming joked while on the subject of the wines Basalt offers to Crimson and Chardonnay.

While this event may appear exclusive to attendees 21 and older, SAA President Ashley Vu said the event offers more for the palates of underage visitors.

“It has a wide variety of items,” Vu said. “Items donated from the Bookie, cougar gear, art from local artists, and pieces from WSU students.”

Crimson and Chardonnay will be held at the Lewis Alumni Centre. Tickets cost $40 for people 21 and older and $20 for people under 21.
