The Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow is showing the movie “Vice” starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday.

“We had a number of requests from our patrons to show this movie,” said Jamie Hill, operations director at the Kenworthy.

“Vice” explores the historical events around former President George W. Bush’s selection of Dick Cheney as his vice-presidential running mate in the 2000 presidential election.

“It is a story that people don’t really know, people tend to know more about our president than our vice president,” Hill said, “So it is showing a little background information and a little light on it.”

Dick Cheney at the time was CEO of the company Halliburton and brought with him a long list of political appointments to count as experience.

“Christian Bale plays Dick Cheney, and if you don’t know it’s Christian Bale, then you won’t know who that is,” Hill said.

The movie follows Cheney’s growth in power as he goes from being a White House intern during the Nixon administration to one of the most powerful men in the country as Vice President.

Through the progression of the film, Dick Cheney rises through the ranks of bureaucracy while dealing with family and health complications.

The movie is highly decorated — it received the Oscar for Makeup and Hairstyling. It was also nominated for eight Academy Awards and six Golden Globes, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy going to Christian Bale.

“Vice” is just one of many films showing at the Kenworthy in coming weeks.

“We like to call the Kenworthy Moscow’s living room, and that applies to you in Washington too,” Hill said. “It is a gathering space where everyone can come to.”

“Vice” is showing at 8 p.m. both today and Friday. On Saturday, showings are at 4:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. On Sunday, showings will start at 3:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 at the door, which opens 30 minutes prior to screening.

“If you are a Batman fan, then you get to see a completely different Batman,” Hill said. “Plus, it is only seven bucks and you can’t beat that.”
