Whitman County moved into Phase 3 of Washington state’s COVID-19 reopening plan Tuesday, along with all other counties in the state.

The county will remain in Phase 3 until June 30, which is when the state will fully reopen, according to a press release from Gov. Jay Inslee. 

The state may reopen sooner if over 70 percent of state residents over 16 years become vaccinated, according to the press release. Currently, 56 percent of state residents have started the process of getting vaccinated. 

The state was previously in a “two-week pause” where all counties remained in their previous phase after state evaluations were not conducted because positive COVID-19 cases were plateauing, according to a Daily Evergreen article.

Positive cases are now declining in the state, according to the press release. 

In Phase 3, indoor social gatherings cannot include more than 10 people, according to the state’s reopening guidelines. Outdoor gatherings cannot exceed over 50 people. 

Most businesses can operate at 50 percent capacity. For restaurants, indoor dining must end at midnight. Bars that do not also serve food are still closed, according to the guidelines. 

Worship and fitness places can also operate at 50 percent capacity, according to the guidelines. 

Sports competitions and outdoor entertainment businesses can operate with a maximum of 400 people, according to the guidelines. Indoor entertainment businesses can operate at 50 percent capacity or with 400 people maximum, whichever is lower.
