Friday, the International Center held its second to last Coffee Hour. The event succeeded in getting many people into the space with one of the largest turnouts of the semester.

The IC featured seven ice cream flavors from Ferdinands, including Lemon Chiffon, Cougar Tracks and Cappuccino Chip.

“At the end of the semester, the IC likes to do events that are more relaxing and calming,” said Cody Tornow, assistant director and international retention specialist for the IC. “So [the event] is some sort of stress relief coffee hour.”

Tornow said the IC understands that students are stressed from their academics, so they want to host fun and stress-free events.

Ice cream socials are anything but new. Ice cream itself is extremely old. It dates back to the Tang Dynasty in China, where emperors were known to enjoy “a frozen milk-like confection,” according to PBS.com.

You can find Ferdinand’s full list of ice cream flavors on their website. They have classic flavors like strawberry and chocolate, or you could try other more exciting flavors such as “Apple Cup” Crisp, a vanilla ice cream with apple flavoring, caramel, oatmeal cookies and spices.

The WSU community provided a range of stress-free activities for people to relax. This included the student capstone project “Mindful Monday.” Held at Ruby Street park, the project hosted activities including boxing, yoga, interacting with therapy dogs and more, according to their Instagram.

At the IC’s Ice Cream Social, students enjoyed the break and relaxed during their time off.

“I drop by every now and then,” said Khoa Nguyen, senior computer science major. “I used to come here every few days… but I got really busy, so now I [only] drop by every week.”

Nguyen said that it can be easier to connect with others that are going through the same experience, a sentiment he shares with other students at the IC.

“I think it’s a really nice place to meet new people because I’m an immigrant, so I feel like I connect better with people from other countries,” Nguyen said.

The IC’s final Coffee hour is 3 p.m. on Friday; join other students as they enjoy their time together and relax from the stress of finals
