A WSU student who was a fraternity member was found deceased on the sixth floor of the WSU’s Streit/Perham residence hall Sunday afternoon.

“When officers arrived at the scene, they found that one of the students who was assigned to the room was deceased,” said WSU PD Assistant Chief Dawn Daniels in a statement to The Daily Evergreen.

WSU PD has opened an investigation into the student’s death but is awaiting the Whitman County Coroner’s autopsy report to determine a cause of death. At this point, there are no indications of foul play, Daniels said.

“We will be releasing information by the end of this week,” Whitman County Coroner Annie Pillers, wrote in an email to The Daily Evergreen.

WSU PD is unable to comment on the specifics of the investigation at this time.

“These situations evoke a variety of emotions; sadness, confusion, fear, anger,” Erin Lasher, assistant director for the Center for Fraternity and Sorority life, wrote in an email to the Greek community Monday morning. “We know that in these circumstances, it’s hard to make sense of what has happened. All of us want to help, and we can feel lost on how to do so.”
