In their season opener, the Pullman Greyhounds battled the Lakeside Eagles. It was a clash of defenses throughout the whole game.
Greyhound fans filled the stands, and the school band played with spirit. Students and fans showed up in support of the Greyhounds football team season opener.
The Greyhound offense started strong with an eight-yard touchdown from running back Brady Coulter. Three minutes into the first quarter, the Greyhounds quarterback Connor Stewart threw a 35-yard pass to wide receiver Will Focht, but the lakeside defense would go on to force a punt. That would set the tone for a defensive clash, forcing the offenses to battle for every yard.
During the second quarter, the Lakeside defense secured a crucial sack against Stewart. After Lakeside quarterback Cy Reeves threw a five-yard reception to receiver Jett Winger, Winger ran it for another 22 yards before being brought down.Â
In the third quarter, Stewart threw two interceptions, and the Lakeside Eagles carried their momentum into the fourth quarter.
With just 37 seconds left on the clock, Reeves threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jesse Surran. The final score was 7-6 in a thrilling battle of defense.Â
Greyhounds quarterback Connor Stewart threw for 96 yards with 11 receptions and 2 interceptions.
Greyhounds running back Brady Coulter had 21 rushes for 58 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Will Foct had 2 receptions and ran for 58 yards.
The Pullman Greyhounds will travel to Moscow High School on Friday, Sept. 13, to face the Moscow Bears, who are coming off a 19-6 win over Clarkston.
