An annual 5k, paired with Oktoberfest events, raise money to support the Humane Society of the Palouse.

The Paw-louse 5k Fun Run Walk starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at the University of Idaho’s Intermodal Transit Center, followed by Oktoberfest at the Latah County Fairgrounds, according to a news release.

The first three winners of the race will receive prizes, while the rest of the participants will be entered into a raffle for prizes donated from the community, HSoP Executive Director Tara Wimer said. Most of the prizes come from businesses in downtown Moscow.

The fun run promotes community wellness and responsible pet ownership, and it helps the humane society fulfill part of its mission statement, Wimer said. The staff often gets to see dogs adopted from the humane society over the years at the 5k.

Late registration for the 5k is open until the day of the race, with a fee of $25. Entry for Oktoberfest is $15. All ages are welcome and so are friendly dogs, according to the release. For more information, potential participants can stop by the Humane Society of the Palouse or register on their website.
