Handy wins County Commissioner 2 seat

All ballots have been counted; election will be certified Nov. 24

Tom Handy won the position for Whitman County Commissioner 2 with 50.64 percent of the votes.

Incumbent candidate Dean Kinzer received 48.85 percent of the votes, according to the Whitman County general election website. Voters who selected a write-in candidate for the Commissioner 2 position was 0.51 percent. 

Unopposed incumbent Art Swannack won the County Commissioner 1 seat, with 93.78 percent of the votes, and 6.22 percent of voters selected a write-in candidate for the position, according to the website.

Incumbent Gary J. Libey, who ran unopposed for Whitman County Superior Judge Position 1, won with 97.1 percent of the votes, and 2.9 percent of voters selected a write-in candidate, according to the website.

As of 6:24 p.m. Nov. 18, all 21,225 ballots had been counted, which is a voter turnout rate of 85.77 percent, according to the website. The election results will be certified at noon Nov. 24.
