Men can rock the beanie

Men, snap-backs make us look pretty awesome. We all know that. That’s why we wear them, of course. But during the winter, they can make us look like the biggest idiots on campus.

When the wind picks up and the rain begins to pour, there is nothing more embarrassing than chasing a damp flat bill down Stadium Way.

Beanies are the must-have accessory of the winter season. Women dominate the style, but guys, we can rock it even better.

Nobody demonstrates that better than Zumiez’ current online ad campaign that is easily keeping them in the lead of affordable mainstream beanie fashion. Their catalog provides several distinct ways to wear a beanie and look good no matter the outfit or environment.

“The Fisherman” is a cooler style wherein the cap is rolled twice and sits farther back on the head. This works great if your outfit is simplistic or if you were too lazy to put much thought into what you are wearing. It nicely compliments a thermal or sweater and some jeans.

“The Compton” is a more urban style that looks like a pillar reaching high off the back of your head. This particular version is a popular trend on campus right now and will help you blend in well with a large crowd. The most ideal accompaniment is a baggy set of sweats.

“The Slouch” is generally embraced more often by women. But guys can rock this high-sitting and bunched-up look pretty well, too. It’s intended to pair well with bangs and a trendy outfit, so if you’re still rocking Zac Efron hair and are generally artistic, this oversized wear is the style for you.

“The Single Cuff” is the simplest style and my favorite of the bunch. It’s cuffed once and sits just above the eyebrows and halfway over the ears. It covers the most area of your head and looks really stylish with any outfit. Whether you’re wearing a blazer or a hoodie, the subtle swagger that comes with simplicity will make you stand out, no matter what.

Hundreds of online outlets and dozens of local stores have plenty of styles and brands to choose from. Obey, Empyre, Neff and Diamond are some of the leading producers on the market today.

If you’re looking for a cheaper resort for beanies, nothing is thriftier than Goodwill or Palouse Treasures.

Whether you’ve just realized your snap-backs need to hibernate or you’re ahead of the game, stomping around campus in a slick beanie, Instagram or tweet your own beanie style today with the hashtag #WSUbeanieswagger.
